What is Fair trade?
Fair trade is an agreement or trade that is fair to the farmers that grow the product. Sometimes Fair trade isn't fair and can be a problem. There are many farmers who grow cocoa all around the world. Since there are too many farmers around the world who grow cocoa, many have to sell their cocoa for less due to the competitive marketplace.
In the world there are many "cheap-skates", who will buy the farmers' product for less money and then sell it for more money in the market. They are called "coyotes". What is a "Coyote"? "Coyotes" buy the product cheaply (for example cocoa beans) and sell them for more... Which is pretty bad for the farmer because then the price of the cocoa goes down.
FAIR TRADE IS GOOD!!
A fair trade company buys the product for the price it is worth. Fair trade companies do not rip off the farmers instead buy the product at a fair price. When a farmer sells his/her product to fair trade the farmer has some extra money and may be able to buy products they might need e.g. food or to send his/her children to school.
SPREAD THE WORD... FAIR TRADE IS GOOD!!
